JAIPUR: The parents of 14-year-old girl from Udaipur who stopped her impending wedding, have agreed to take her back home after her stay in the children shelter for about a week.
Earlier this week when the
Rajasthan State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (RSCPCR) had tried to handover the girl to her parents, they had refused to keep their daughter at home.
The child welfare committee (CWC) will return the girl home after taking it in writing that they will not try to get her married again till she is of legal age.
The Dangi community to which this minor belongs practices 'Aata saata' (exchange) system of marriages where a family enters an alliance of their daughter only when her would-be in-laws also pledge to give their daughter in marriage to her family. The Udaipur girl was supposed to get married to a 26-year-old man under this centuries old exchange system. The other family that was supposed to get this minor as a bride but the child called RSCPCR and asked for help.
The Dangi family is into farming and hails from Kurabad area in Udaipur district.
